WaveForce is an example of a legacy software conversion. It is based on Fortran code that used flume test results to calculate on-bottom wave particle velocities. From those velocities lift and drag forces on subsea pipelines can be determined to assess pipeline on-bottom stability.
After conversion to a user-friendly Windows program, the original capability of the software was extended to include analysis of piggy-backed pipelines for which new flume tests were commissioned. From these tests additional Fourier coefficients were derived for a range of conditions and pipeline configurations. Previously an “Equivalent Diameter” approach was taken for piggy-backed pipelines resulting in conservative analysis results, hence increasing the cost of pipeline stabilisation measures.
A paper was published about this software: ASME 2009 - Advanced Dynamic Stability Analysis.
